Healthy and happy children, with wooden toys and a good diet

Although we cannot wait to grow up at the time, our childhood years are some of the most enjoyable for many of us. Young children take feeling good for granted and as long as you make sure they have a balanced diet with all the nutrients that they need then there is no reason why they cannot feel great most of the time. Apart from ensuring that they eat correctly it is also possible to help your children with their mental development by giving them a range of things to play with when they are younger, that will stimulate their minds. The choice is much bigger than it used to be a couple of decades ago but some of the traditional toys are still the most popular.

Letting your children play with them is fine as a way to reward them for good behaviour but giving or withholding food as a reward or punishment is not recommended as it can lead to bad eating habits in later life as well as being unhealthy for your child. The sooner they get used to a healthy eating pattern the better. Patterns and colours attract the attention of very young kids and babies which is why playthings for toddlers are invariably brightly coloured. As they get older their tastes may change and they may decide to choose things with less vivid colours to play with. Every child is unique of course but the number of children that still enjoy playing with good quality wooden toys is a testament to their enduring appeal.

Recommendations on what to eat in order to stay healthy tend to change over the years which can be annoying for parents that are trying to make sure their children eat the right food. Doing all things in moderation is a good policy when it comes to our diets and those of our children and will help you avoid eating too much of something that is later discovered to be bad for your health. Scientists are continually learning more about our bodies and the effect that various chemicals have on them so knowledge never stands still. Safety regulations regarding items sold as playthings for young kids have become stricter over time as we have learnt more. Wood is quite safe as long as it has been sanded down properly so that there are no splinters or rough edges and plastic is usually fine too. When it is time for dinner there are plates and bowls made of certain types of plastic that should never be put in the microwave in case they start to melt. Crockery that is safe to use is normally marked as such but if you have any doubts then use a glass or pottery plate instead and transfer the food to a plastic bowl after it has been thoroughly heated. If your kids enjoy eating outside then perhaps you could buy them a table and some chairs for their playhouse that they could use to eat at.
