Genres of Literature for Children

Your children’s health does not just consist of their physical wellbeing. As parents, you also have to consider their mental health. A child who is well-developed mentally generally grows up to be a well-adjusted person. One important tool in the development of your kid’s mental health is children’s literature.

Children’s literature caters to readers at and below the age of twelve and can be classified into many genres. One such genre includes picture books, which come with clear and vibrant illustrations. These picture books are further divided into subgenres. Traditional literature is another genre which usually makes use of conventional introductions and conclusions as well as simple and direct plots. The bulk of this kind of literature consists of folktales, where fantasy is often accepted as normal. Poetry and verse are also considered as genres in children’s literature, some examples of which are limericks and simple children’s verses. To fully develop the mental capacities of your child, it is your responsibility as a parent to expose him to children’s literature.
