How children learn about meal time at home and eating well is vital in how they think about food as they grow up. Children need to realize that eating healthy food is enjoyable. Children also need to know if they had eaten enough or if they are still hungry. And they need to eat balanced healthy foods everyday.
When they first enter their school year, they are too anxious to eat their lunch and then they maybe starved as soon as they arrive home. And as their primary years progress, their appetite may increase a lot. So, it would be great to have food available when they are hungry.

If your are giving them junk food, do not make them as everyday food. Children see lots of TV advertisements that make them eat food that are not good for them, you can help explaining to them about the food on TV and telling them what is really is in the food to make them understand the difference.
Having breakfast is important, and children who skip lunch because they have to rush to school, may experience difficulties to do school work, learning would be hard, and they may not get all the nutrients they need for their growing up years.
And during school lunches, let children be involved in choosing or maybe preparing the food for their packed. It is good to ask them what they would prefer for lunch, of course out of the healthy food choices. You can ask them if they are eating enough lunch. Most children love to buy lunch at shops, and when your child is one of them, you can check if they are buying healthy foods.
Give your children fruit and vegetables – these are important for their growth and development. Alternatives snacks like sweet potato, cheddar cheese, banana bread, apple pancakes, are some of the ideas for school lunches. Try to encourage children to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. And telling them things like they will not get dessert if they do not eat their vegetables, is not the way to it.
Showing your children that you enjoy eating fruits and vegetables is a good example. Never try to force children so that they will also learn the value of respect. According to research, if children are forced to eat food, they often eat less instead. Aside from the basic food needs, it is also imperative to protect children with one good example as procuring insurance for them. Expect them to try at least new food, but do not make comments if they do not eat them. But be positive as children enjoy eating variety of fruit and vegetables.
